Shanenawa PEOPLE

The name “Shanenawa” is etymologically composed of “Shane” (a species of blue bird) and “Nawa” (people), meaning “people of the blue bird.” The Shanenawa are an indigenous group of approximately 1,000 people who live along the banks of the Envira River in the Acre region of the Amazon, specifically in Aldeia Morada Nova, close to the village of Feijó, Acre.

The Shanenawa people have a rich cultural heritage that includes traditional ceremonies, crafts, music, and a deep spiritual connection to the land and nature. Their knowledge of medicinal plants and natural remedies is extensive, and they play a crucial role in preserving the biodiversity of their region.

The Shanenawa community practices a variety of rituals and ceremonies, many of which are designed to maintain harmony with nature and the spiritual world. Among these are the ayahuasca ceremonies, which are integral to their spiritual and cultural life. These ceremonies involve the use of ayahuasca, Sananga, Rapeh, Kambo and other plant medicines.

By visiting the Shanenawa, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in their vibrant culture, learn from their wisdom, and participate in their traditional practices, including the revered ayahuasca ceremonies.

Aldeia NI SHUVINI

Aldeia Ni Shuvini is a remarkable village of the Shanenawa people, located deep in the heart of the Amazon jungle. The name “Ni Shuvini” means “Transformation of the forest,” signifying the powerful connection with the forest that renews and clarifies vision, opening new ways of seeing, thinking, and working. This transformation brings with it strength, security, and enlightenment from the messages of the forest.

Established with the purpose of strengthening the Shanenawa people and their culture, Ni Shuvini is a three-hour walk from Aldeia Morada Nova, the main Shanenawa village. This journey symbolizes a return to their roots and a deeper immersion into the natural environment that is central to their way of life.

At Ni Shuvini, visitors will experience the profound relationship the Shanenawa have with the forest. The village is a place of cultural and spiritual renewal, representing a collective effort to bring light, strength, and clarity through the wisdom of the forest. Ni Shuvini embodies the Shanenawa’s commitment to preserving their way of life.
